WordPress is probably the oldest open source content management system still in widespread use. It’s evolved far beyond it’s original intended use and it has certainly undergone periods where it’s security and performance state just haven’t been at an acceptable level. WordPress decided early on to offer a platform that was both easy for the uninitiated to utilise quickly, and also offered the opportunity for customisation in order that it might feature solutions beyond it’s “out of the box” scope.
At Permanent Waves it’s not our only specialty but it’s the platform we spend most time of our time with. We’ve come to adopt a philosophy that has 3 pathways.
- No code no customise, no problems – If you plan to use wordpress for completely straightforward information only web sites where you can control the content entirely . then you don’t really need us, we can offer more of a coaching role to get you up and running more quickly and show you how to leverage the built in power.
- Fully modern block editor – Dynamic content, app driven websites. This pathway offers the most powerful features, and should be considered if your consuming audience comes in all varieties, not just the screen size they us but also the type of interactions (API, RSS included). Honestly a word press site built with this philosophy is probably aiming to scale up to a point where you’ll need to pivot to a more powerful platform, but by then your web development budget will be 6+ figures.
- The Hybrid Model – This is the space we occupy most frequently. We build for you a wordpress site with a custom template (visual presentation code) using the traditional wordpress model (template files and php server side automation) and we leverage the more modern aspects of the Block Based editor with customised REACT fragments. This pathway allows for relatively inexpensive initial site builds and keeps open all the opportunities to expand the functionality of your site as your business or organisation grows.
